October Book Giveaway – His Blood Works by Alan Stibbs

Our October Book Giveaway features His Blood Works:  The Meaning of the Word ‘blood’ in Scripture by Alan Stibbs. Here is a brief description of this great little book:

Did you know that the blood of Christ is mentioned more times in the New Testament than the cross or even the death of Christ? But what is the significance of this fact? What does it tell us about the sacrifice of Christ and how does this emphasis on his blood help us in understanding the finished work of Christ on the cross? Alan Stibbs dispels any misconceptions that people may have about Jesus’ blood and its work by examining the Old and New Testament. The author gives us the Biblical understanding of the meaning of the blood which equates to the purposeful and effective laying down of a life. We will find that indeed His Blood Works!

This contest is now closed.  Thank you for your interest.

Terms and Conditions:

  • This contest is limited to residents of the 48 state continental United States and the UK..

New Release – 365 Great Bible Stories by Carine Mackenzie

It is with much excitement that we introduce Carine MacKenzie’s 150th Book. 365 Great Bible Stories:  The Good News of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation has enough stories to last you the whole year through. Each reading is one page in length, making it perfect for meal time devotions or bed time reading with your children.  Parents will especially appreciate the closing section of each story, which is titled either “Think” or “Pray” offering suggestions for discussion or prayer related to the story you just finished reading.  Another special feature of 365 Great Bible Stories is that the stories related to major themes and topics can be easily identified by special images.  For instance, if you see a lamb picture on a particular page, you know that story is about Jesus Christ and salvation.  You can see all of the special pictures used throughout the book below:

In addition to the special images noted above, there are numerous beautiful illustrations throughout the book that will be sure to keep you and your children engaged as you embark on the journey to discover the good news about Jesus Christ from Genesis to Revelation. As you read this book, it is our hope that you will be able to make a special friend, Jesus Christ, the true Saviour. He is with his people always no matter what time of day or what month of the year it is. God’s word is true always. Read it and learn from it and follow it all the days of your life.

365 Great Bible Stories is available at the following online retailers: ChristianBook.com, Cumberland Valley Books, Monergism Books, 10ofthose.com, BarnesandNoble.com or Amazon.com.

About the Author:
Carine Mackenzie’s talent for retelling Bible stories has meant that children from all over the world have been given the opportunity to discover Jesus Christ for themselves. The first title written in the kitchen with the assistance of a basin of water has inspired the production of many other books. Carine’s 150th book 365 Great Bible Stories was released in September. She has sales of over 3 million books. She stays in Inverness, Scotland.

Praise for 365 Great Bible Stories:

365 Great Bible Stories: The Good News of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation by Carine Mackenzie is a fantastic book, not just for young children, but for people of all ages. I happily welcome this addition to my library and I look forward to reading it to my daughter and any other children the Lord may bless us with. I trust that this book will entertain young children as it is read aloud, and also inform children as they read it for themselves. This is no mere storybook, there are important truths strewn throughout; this is truly a premier discipleship resource full of sound theology and practical wisdom.”
~Timothy Harris – pursuingthefruit.blogspot.com

“While there is no replacement for the living and active Word of God, it is helpful to have resources to help our children see the redemptive storyline of the Bible. 365 Great Bible Stories is another helpful resource to that end. It can be used by itself or along with a Bible to help bring greater clarity to the Truth in God’s Word and the message of salvation.”

Christian Focus Across the Web – October 21, 2011

Christian Focus Across the Web highlights important news and blog posts related to our books. This week’s highlights are below:

Elizabeth Hankins reviews 365 Great Bible Stories by Carine Mackenzie
– This past week Elizabeth Hankins shared a great review of 365 Great Bible Stories:  The Good News of Jesus Christ from Genesis to Revelation by Carine Mackenzie on The Hankins Family blog (www.hankinsfamily.com).   Here is a bit of what Elizabeth had to say:

“I have to be honest, when I saw that Christian Focus was publishing 365 Great Bible Stories by Carine Mackenzie, my first thought was, “Do we really need another children’s Bible?” There are already several excellent children’s Bible on the market. However, our family has been incredibly blessed by all of the resources that we have purchased from Christian Focus so I really wanted to look through this children’s Bible and compare it to the others that we have come to love.

As expected, Christian Focus did not disappoint.”

You can read Elizabeth’s full review here:  LINK.  If you would like to purchase your own copy of 365 Great Bible Stories, it is available from any of the following online retailers: ChristianBook.com, Cumberland Valley Books, 10ofthose.com, and Amazon.com.

Cal Larson reviews John Calvin:  After Darkness Light by Catherine Mackenzie – Cal Larson recently featured a review of John Calvin:  After Darkness Light by Catherine Mackenzie on his There & Blog Again book review site (www.thereandblogagain.com). Cal says:

“Catherine Mackenzie gives readers a brief overview of the important events in John Calvin’s life. Filled with turns, Calvin’s life was a constant battle against the obstacles that Satan threw in his path. Mackenzie shows the difficulty of each trial with incredible detail, and gives readers an understanding of the turmoil, and danger of John Calvin’s life.

I particularly like Mackenzie’s way of describing Calvin’s early years. It was a hard time for young Calvin: his mother died before he turned five, he went off to a university at age thirteen, and had to battle through homesickness, and his constantly changing life. The author really gave me a picture of what it was like, to decide to change universities, his pressure from his father, and numerous other things.”

Cal’s full review can be found here: LINK. If you would like to purchase your own copy of John Calvin:  After Darkness Light, it is available from any of the following online retailers: ChristianBook.com, Cumberland Valley Books, 10ofthose.com, and Amazon.com.

New Release – Christ Set Forth and The Heart of Christ in Heaven Towards Sinners on Earth by Thomas Goodwin

Contemplating the riches of our Savior is something the English Puritans did well. Two books from the pen of Thomas Goodwin, “the Elder”, aim to present Christ to the reader in all His splendor. Christ Set Forth is an extended meditation on Romans 8:34, while The Heart of Christ in Heaven Towards Sinners on Earth is a treatise on Hebrews 4:15. These two rightfully classic books give us an opportunity to learn about Christ, His work and His death. In them, Goodwin presents to us the Lord Jesus Christ, the Example and the Object of justifying faith, and our Loving Intercessor.

Together in this handsome Christian Heritage volume, these books are attractively laid out with helpful headings and sub-dividers to assist reading the unabridged text of this Puritan classic. The foreword is written by J.I. Packer and a helpful introduction by Mark Jones is included.

For more information about this book, and to read J.I. Packer’s foreword, visit the product detail page at ChristianFocus.com. This book is available at the following online retailers: ChristianBook.com, Cumberland Valley Books, Monergism Books, 10ofthose.com, BarnesandNoble.com or Amazon.com.

About the Author:
Thomas Goodwin (1600 – 1679), was born in Rollesby, Norfolk and was educated at Cambridge. This English Puritan theologian was a contemporary of Richard Baxter and John Owen was known as “the Elder”. He was a Preacher of the Council of State; President of Magdalene College, Oxford; Member of the Westminster Assembly of Divines; and chaplain to Oliver Cromwell.

Praise for Christ Set Forth:

“Goodwin is always an interpreter [of Scripture], and one of a thousand… Full as Goodwin always is of the ripest scriptural and Reformation scholarship, full as he always is of the best theological and philosophical learning of his own day and of all foregoing days; full, also, as he always is of the deepest spiritual experience — all the same, he is also so clear, so direct, so untechnical, so personal, and so pastoral…”

Alexander Whyte ~ noted Scottish minister, Free St. George’s, Edinburgh (1836-1921)

“It was Goodwin’s joy to write about Christ, with whom he communed constantly, and the two items reprinted here are among his best treatments of the Saviour’s love and service to us. Reformed Christology in the seventeenth century, as since, was subtle and deep, and Mark Jones’ excellent analytical essay will be found helpful at this point.”

J I Packer ~ Board of Governors’ Professor of Theology, Regent College, Vancouver, Canada

“Thomas Goodwin was a man of prodigious learning, but he was also a man who loved the church of Jesus Christ because he loved his Saviour so much. With his pen in hand he tried his best to allow both his heart and mind to write about the person and work of Christ in such a way that was not only orthodox, but also useful for those he regularly preached to and those who would have the pleasure of reading his works.”

Mark Jones ~ Minister, Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church (PCA), Vancouver, Canada

For more about Vance Christie, read his author profile here at Christian Focus Booknotes.

Praise for Women of Faith and Courage:

“Nothing inspires me like reading about the lives of women who lived and died serving the Lord Jesus. Vance Christie has done a wonderful job of opening the lives of five women-sharing their strengths and weaknesses as well as their victories and tragedies…. for God to take ordinary women and use them in such extraordinary ways should give every woman a mandate to serve the Lord faithfully even if in the most humble circumstances!”

Dorothy K. Patterson ~ Professor of Theology in Women’s Studies, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Forth Worth, Texas

“The whole book has fascinated and intrigued me, and I am so grateful to Vance for putting so much hard work into the research, bringing to light so much ‘new’ material. He has written each life story in such a vibrant way, truly making each of the five women come alive.”

Helen Roseveare ~ former missionary and noted author

“Your book, Women of Faith and Courage, shows in a beautifully-written and fascinating style, the faithful devotion of these women for Christ, and allows us to look deeply into their lives and ministries. I can highly recommend this book, and I hope women around the world will study it for personal spiritual growth and also in a group Bible study setting. Truly, these five women are role models for all of us today!”

Denise George ~ author, teacher, and speaker

“In days when sacrifice for Christ’s sake is often sadly lacking in our churches there is much here to challenge and even disturb us.”

Faith Cook ~ author

“Whether confronted with poverty, a self-centered husband, endless debt, physical disabilities, perennial illness, government persecution, destructive fires, or loneliness, they all found faith in Christ gave them a courage to overcome every obstacle and serve Him.”
