Tune in today at 1:30 PM Central to hear Peter Mead on The Janet Mefferd Show

Peter MeadChristian Focus author Peter Mead will be interviewed live Friday December 5, 2014 at 1:30 PM Central on The Janet Mefferd Show to discuss his book Pleased to Dwell: A Biblical Introduction to the Incarnation. You can listen to the live broadcast at janetmefferd.com.

The archive of this interview is available to stream or download here: LINK.

About the Book:
At the centre of heaven is Christ, lovingly adored as the forever Lord of all. At the centre of Christmas is Christ, frail and cradled in the tender arms of a young mother. How can the two be put together? Heavenly glory and human frailty? That is the real wonder of Christmas.Pleased to Dwell is an energetic biblical introduction to Christmas. It is an invitation to ponder the Incarnation, and a God who was pleased to dwell with us.

Building anticipation with the great themes of the Old Testament, enjoying the remarkably distinct birth narratives of Matthew, then Luke, before surveying some great New Testament passages, Pleased to Dwell is an engaging introduction to the wonder of the Word becoming flesh and dwelling among us. This book offers a wealth of ideas for preachers, an easy access mini-reference tool for Bible students, and an enjoyable cover-to-cover read for everyone. Twenty-four short chapters would make a great advent devotional, but this book is not just for Christmas. God’s Son stepped into our world and that changes every day of the year!

Praise for Pleased to Dwell:

“This book is perfect food for the heart for all of us who long for a richer understanding of the birth of The King!”
-Joseph M. Stowell ~ President, Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, Michigan

“What a really useful resource! As I read through it, I found that ideas for carol service talks just kept leaping off its pages.”
-Rico Tice ~ Author, Christianity Explored & Associate Minister at All Souls Church, Langham Place, London

About Peter Mead:
Peter Mead is director of Cor Deo, a mentored ministry training programme based in Chippenham, England. He is on the leadership team of a church plant and leads the Bible Teachers & Preachers Networks at the European Leadership Forum. Hear Alasdair Paine Live on The Janet Mefferd Show – 7/28/2014 @ 2:00 PM ET

The First Chapters of Everything by Alasdair PaineChristian Focus author Alasdair Paine will be interviewed live Monday July 28, 2014 at 2:00 PM ET on The Janet Mefferd Show to discuss his book The First Chapters of Everything. You can listen to the live broadcast at janetmefferd.com.

The archive of this interview is now available to stream or download here: LINK.

About the Book
Despite its enormous significance, it is hard to hear the message of Genesis 1– 4 today. These chapters are widely dismissed as an ancient ‘myth’, a primitive account of origins long since displaced by scientific research. Within some churches, arguments about how to read the book (what are the ‘days’ of chapter 1, etc.?) have become so heated that we end up avoiding it. The result is the silencing of one of the most important messages of all time. This book is written out of a longing to make that message known.

For those seeking to work out the relationship between Genesis and science, I hope that this book, while not giving the answers, will at least give a steer as to what the Biblical text is about.

*Adapted from the preface to The First Chapters of Everything.

Praise for The First Chapters of Everything:

“Deceptively clear and digestible style… He is preoccupied with ‘What is God saying to us here?’ and refuses to allow the elephant of secondary issues to stand between us and the Genesis text (though he provides additional notes for the curious). Here is a book I found refreshing my spirit, stimulating my mind, and nourishing my soul.”
Dale Ralph Davis ~ Minister in Residence, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina

“There is no better brief introduction to [Gen. 1-4] than this. Alasdair Paine helpfully engages with the complex questions of interpretation but never gets bogged down… The focus throughout is God’s contemporary message to us through these chapters, which is presented with great clarity and powerful application.”
-Vaughan Roberts ~ Rector of St Ebbe’s, Oxford and Director of Proclamation Trust

Alasdair Paine is Vicar of St. Andrew the Great, Cambridge and a trustee of Keswick Ministries.

Big God by Orlando SaerChristian Focus author Orlando Saer will be interviewed live Thursday July 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM ET on The Janet Mefferd Show to discuss his book Big God. You can listen to the live broadcast at janetmefferd.com.

The archive of this interview is now available to stream or download here: LINK.

About the Book:
Knowing a God with his hands well and truly on the steering wheel should bring great comfort to believers. But often it just leaves us scratching our heads in confusion. Why then do bad things happen? Where does that leave ‘free will’? Does God choose us or do we choose God? What’s the point of praying if God already knows what he’s going to do?

Orlando Saer tackles these questions – and more – in a straightforward and engaging way. If you sometimes struggle to understand the way God works in the world, or to explain it to others, you will find light here. You’ll also be left with a new appreciation of just how big the God of the Bible really is.

Praise for Big God:

“If God has seemed absent, He might start appearing for you in surprising places if you take on board Saer’s words here. Accurate, biblical, clear, short, serious and practical… thinking meets life.”
-Mark Dever ~ Senior Pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church and President of 9Marks.org, Washington, DC

“Cosmic practicality… he peels off the cultural shrink-wrap from this massive doctrine and thus gives wings to Christian living – and mission. Here is medicine for the soul!”
-R. Kent Hughes ~ Senior Pastor Emeritus, College Church, Wheaton, Illinois

About the Author:
Orlando Saer is the Senior Pastor of Christ Church Southampton where he is involved in training and discipling university students. He has previously served churches in Sydney, London and Surrey. He is married to Libby and they have four children.

Albert Martin on The Janet Mefferd Show

About the Book:
It happens little by little. . . Even in the context of a very faithful ministry, a pastor may be at risk of a gradual-but ultimately debilitating-downfall. Al Martin speaks from years of experience as he guides pastors to identify warning signs of dangerous paths:

  • Backsliding-a spiritual decline manifested first in the prayer closet.
  • Burnout-erosion of one’s mental, emotional, psychological, and physical resiliency and buoyancy.
  • Washout-the loss of credibility among the people.

About the Author:
Albert N. Martin served as pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Montville, New Jersey, for more than forty years and he taught Pastoral Theology in the Trinity Ministerial Academy for twenty years. Esteemed by leading theologians and pastors, his preaching is the subject of a book, My Heart for Thy Cause.
